What Is Aspect Ratio?

What Is Aspect Ratio

You remember your first cellphone! Which used to have a 1.8-inch monochrome screen and you could only call and message in it. But today there is a large mobile in hand with a 6-inch screen or even bigger screen. With this, there is also talk of many new technologies regarding this screen. At the same time, there is a lot of discussion about the screen aspect ratio in mobile display. Some phones talk about 16: 9 aspect ratios and some are in 18: 9 ratio. Today, most phones come with 19: 9 aspect ratios. Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about 21: 9 aspect ratios for mobile screens. In such a situation, you will often wonder what is this aspect ratio and what difference does it make in the display? So let's discuss this screen technology in detail today.
What is the aspect ratio
The first question that will come in your mind is what is this aspect ratio? Let me tell you that the aspect ratio tells the ratio of width and height of any screen. It is given primarily as W: H. Where W is the width and H is the ratio of height to height. If the screen aspect ratio of a phone is 16: 9. This means that the width of the phone is divided into 16 equal parts while the height or picture is divided into 9 equal parts. The horizontal box that is formed to divide the screen in this ratio is called the letterboxes. Similarly, if the aspect ratio of the screen is 18: 9, then understand that the width is divided into equal parts of picture width and height 18 ratio 9.

How the screen aspect ratio changed?

Apart from mobile, other screens including TV also support such aspect ratios. Before mobile, TV computers had come to the homes and the mention of the aspect ratio started from here. Initially, 4: 3 aspect ratios were used for monitors and televisions. Till 2003, a 4: 3 aspect ratio screen was used for most computer monitors and TV screens launched worldwide including India. Apart from this, some monitors also had 5: 4 aspect ratios. But this trend changed quite rapidly after 2003 and by 2006 the demand for monitors with 16:10 aspect ratios in commuter monitors increased rapidly. 16:10 The display with the aspect ratio first started in the laptop, followed by the second display. During this time 16: 9 and 16:10 aspect ratios were used.
The main reason for the increasing demand for new aspect ratios was the widescreen display. That is, earlier there were displays from Chaukar, which felt quite different from it. At the same time, it was better to play games and run apps on the new aspect ratio. By 2008, 16:10 and 16: 9 became standers for screen monitors with aspect ratios. By 2011-2012, the manufacture of monitors with 4: 3 aspect ratios were almost stopped. Turning to TV, before 2010, most companies used screens with 4: 3 aspect ratios, but after that 16: 9 aspect ratio became almost standalone. The same aspect ratio is used more for new HD and FHD TVs. 18: 9 aspect ratios are rarely seen on TV. Nowadays, TVs with 21: 9 aspect ratios are also coming up.
Although today, the aspect ratio is most commonly mentioned about mobile. In such a situation, talking about mobiles is also important. As of 2010, screens with 3:2 and 5: 3 aspect ratios were mostly used for mobile phones. But this changed completely after the arrival of the smartphone. After 2010, screens with 16: 9 aspect ratios entered the trend where users started using wide screens in phones.
Till 2016, only smartphones with 16: 9 aspect ratio screens were spoken. But in 2017, Samsung launched an 18: 9 aspect ratio screen, which the company named Infinity Display. With this screen, the bezels on the phone became even less and people started getting wide screens in small devices.
However, after this the phone with the notch screen has 19: 9, waterdrop notch, punch hole display and the screen with a pop-up camera has 19.5: 9 aspect ratio screens. Along with this, Sony and later Motorola launched their phones earlier this year in which the screen with 21: 9 aspect ratio is used in the smartphone. This is the newest aspect ratio for mobile.
Does aspect ratio make a difference?
By now you must have known what the aspect ratio is and what kind of aspect ratio is being used for mobile phones, TVs and computers. But what difference does it make, this question will still be in mind. So let's talk on this topic now.
During the mobile game or application, you will not see much difference in the aspect ratio. Because they are prepared in such a way that these screens adjust according to the aspect ratio and resolution. But in order to see the picture, you will get the right feel of the aspect ratio.
Any picture is recorded with a 21: 9 aspect ratio. In such a situation, when you see the picture on the screen with other aspect ratios, the black spot will appear from the side. This is called the pillar boxes. If you are watching a video on a screen with a 4: 3 aspect ratio, you will find that a thick black bar appears on both sides of the screen. Similarly, on the screen with a 16: 9 aspect ratio, you will get a black bar to the right and left while watching the movie. Although some screens adjust it by stretching it, it does not retain the actual shape of the picture whereas on the screen with 21: 9 aspect ratio you can see the picture with the actual shape on the entire screen.
